GaryCon across the globe...way to honor Gygax
By now most of you have seen the news about Gary Gygax.
I suggest that as a way of honoring Gary Gaygax we have a "GaryCon" across the globe this Friday and Saturday night. By "We" - I mean every gamer possible who plays RPGs. Everywhere, everyone. All of us play either Dungeons & Dragons this Friday and Saturday night -OR- We play the RPG rules system of our choice - but we do a typical D&D-type dungeon crawl. ...either Friday or Saturday night. - Ed Charlton

I'm in. If Z won't run it, I'll do it.
Good idea Q. Fitting tribute methinks.

I've got a game coming up on Sunday that I am going to be dedicating to Gary.

Anyway, great idea Qoltar. I'll either run the game I was already planning to run or, if I can find it, run an old D&D module I have around somewhere that Gary Gygax authored. (I don't even remember which one it is, I just remember his name is on the cover.)

Good idea Qoltar, by the way appreciate the changed avatar. Wish I could join in but I am not playing until Sunday. Plus the game I am in tends more toward social interaction and highway robbery than dungeon crawling, but if I can work it in I plan on an abusive combo of the Invisiblity and a missle spell in honor of the writer of Keep on the Borderlands.

Re: GaryCon across the globe...way to honor Gygax
I've already been planning on having a 21 d20 Salute to kick off my game, which while not a D&D one (or much of a Dungeon Crawl), there will be scads of Zombies about, and if the PCs go there, an abandoned Nuclear Missile Silo site that the PCs will be able to demolish in their quest to rid their hometown of the Radioactive Zombie scourge. Also, the game will be dedicated to his memory.
I also have a page dedicated to Gygax on my website (click the link in my signature at the bottom of this post).

Would love to, but unfortunately, I have no gaming group anymore :(

Re: GaryCon across the globe...way to honor Gygax
I'm not sure if my regular gaming group would go for it. At the moment, most of my players are friends of my 14-year-old daughter. They have little experience in RPG's and no experience with D&D. I'm afraid the nostalgia factor would be lost on them.
Although, I think I have an alternative in mind. Our campaign is a Josie and the Pussicats-type setting with players all members of a travelling band. I think I can swing a crossover with the Saturday Morning Dungeons & Dragons cartoons. It might work. |

Re: GaryCon across the globe...way to honor Gygax
Considering that the D&D cartoon was a project that Gygax worked directly on in a very involved way - that just might work .
