Crypt of Concealment

Can an item that is being held in the Crypt of Concealment be used, or must it be removed first? I'm assuming the item's bonus won't apply to combat while its in the crypt, but then I'm trying to figure out how useful the crypt actually is without being able to tell the future. Though it might be a nice way to store a backup weapon to keep for after death...

I was also wondering, since its a crypt and, presumable, not actually being carried around, does the "big" apply to your limit of big items, or is it like steeds and vehicles, where the 'big' is a protection against stealing but not something you're carrying yourself.

And speaking of stealing, the crypt only specifies protection against curses and bad stuff. Can a thief steal an item thats hidden in a crypt?
