Default Ranger Taming and Transferral Potion

So this came up in tonight's game. Have not found it in the forums but if anyone has please link.

Player A came up against a monster that they could beat. The bad stuff was to lose there head gear. Being that they had both the Magnificent Hat and Peripheral Vision it would be for the better good of everyone else for a chance for them to lose them. So everyone else pumps it up just beyond winning. So Player A Transferral Potion it to Player B. Player B then uses the Bard ability Enthrall to make Player A rejoin the battle. Player B pumps it one more time to get extra treasure but not enough to close the gap enough for us to push the monster over the top since we already burned through most of what we had. So Player A being a Ranger goes to Tame to keep the treasure from going to Player B. I say not going to happen because Rangers helping cannot tame. Player A says yes because it is still their turn within the terms of Transferral Potion. How should this of resolved itself?

The way it ended was the tame was not allowed until clarifaction could be sought and a friendship potion was thrown down to keep player B from getting the treasure. Both were allowed to loot the room.

I think Player A should be allowed to tame. He is in combat and it is his turn. Those are the conditions written on the Monster Tamer ability, so he should be able to use it.

I'm trying to decide whether I hate Rangers or the Transferral Potion more right now.

Give in to your hatred. Join the dark side. ;)

Was the original intention of the Ranger power to prevent helpers from being able to use it?
