So I searched the forum and could not find the answer to this question.
If you are cursed by Malign Mirror and you help someone out does Malign Mirror count for that fight and resolve, or does it only affect your next fight, or does it affect the fights you are helping in until you end up starting a fight? In a game tonight my wife had Malign Mirror and helped my son out to get rid of it, but I wasn't sure that was how it was supposed to be played. I let it slide since I was unsure what the rules are on this one. Turned out okay anyway since I won:). |

The card says it triggers on 'your next fight'. By strict wording, a fight that you are helping in is not your fight, so it wouldn't count in that fight (neither the penalty nor removal). I'm not sure if that's the intent of the card, so I may be overruled, though...

Curses that have an effect on your next combat (such as the -5 penalty for Change Sex), take effect whether you are the main combatant or the helper. So the same applies to Malign Mirror. You're still in the fight either way.

Yeah, I'm going to say I agree with RL here anyway as it's how I've always played the card until reading it again last night and it is pretty clearly the intent.
The only cards that seem to have a real issue with 'your next combat' and being a helper are Curse! B.O. and Curse! Fool's Gold. That's not really enough to say all the change sex and other next combat penalties should not count combats you help in. Edit: And I'm finding rulings that say even the trouble cards apply when you help but still apply to the whole combat, so Curse! Fool's Gold does actually stop any treasure being drawn, even by the combat owner, if the helper is cursed by it. And I guess the same can work for Curse! B.O.. So long story short, Malign Mirror should definitely apply when you are helping in a combat, but in that case, it only affects the helper.

I might have to dig out fools gold but I thought the wording on it meant it was counted as any combat you were in. Is that not the case? My games are still packed in a box after moving house.

That's correct. It says 'your next combat' and it applies to the helper as well in that if a helper cursed with Curse! Fool's Gold joins a combat, then the combat owner draws no treasure for that combat. I was wrong to infer otherwise earlier, hence my correction in the most recent post.
