The Ai R'lyeh card does not have any specific rules on it. Is it a one shot card? If not, and the holder can keep it after using it to pick up a discard, can the holder continue to pick up the same card? In other words, the holder picks up a discarded "go up a level" card, then discards it. Can he or she pick it up over and over until reaching level nine? I ASSUME that the holder can only pick up cards discarded by another player, but since it doesn't say so, what's the rule?

It's not an Item and it doesn't provide a bonus, so you should discard it immediately after playing it like all other such door cards.
You would thus be able to use it for your own discards, so playing a GUAL twice is possible, but you'd need to find a way to get Ia R'lyeh! back into your hand to retrieve it again. |

So for whatever reason, I have to discard a bunch of items (lets say 3). I collect all 3 of my cards and at the same time, discard all 3 of them. Someone plays IA R'lyeh!, can they dig through all 3 cards and pick which ever one they want? Or does it have to be the TOP discard?

There is likely to be a pretty good clue on the card itself, though, as I don't play that flavor, I haven't seen it to know for sure.
This sounds like another good time to point out that the player whose turn it is decides the order in which all cards discarded during their turn will pile on to the discard pile. (Nitpickers might wish to keep a pseudo pile within each turn, but don't unless the whole table is cool with it). My answers are always meant to be helpful, and should never be taken as gospel. |

The order of discards is public information. If someone discards a bunch of cards at once, it is entirely fair for another player to ask to see the discards one by one. However, you don't generally discard multiple cards one by one, but as a group, allowing you to "bury" a card by discarding it under another one.
I don't have the database in front of me to check the specific card in question. If this doesn't answer your question, let me know in a response and I'll take a look at the office.

Given that the trigger is when a card 'hits the discard pile', my thoughts are the player of Ia R'lyeh can choose whichever of the three cards to take, but only one. They are all hitting the discard pile at the same time, even if one of them is buried.
