I have a question about the warp drive: Can it be used for sub-light propulsion or combat? Also is the new one better at combat that previous versions? Now if I understand things properly, the ship we encountered is a generation ship that sides with the mesubrains. It might make sense to blast it, especially if we have a combat advantage now. (Although I don't think anyone would actually go for it from the cast of characters...)

Alright! Outpost Director it is. Let me make sure I understand: The Captain is in charge of the ship The Military Chief is in charge of the troops The Outpost Director is in charge of the civilians Is that correct? What responsibilities does the OD have before the ship arrives? Is a fondness for gambling something that would keep a fellow from getting the job in the first place? |

The general scepticism about alien life seems to indicate that the current theories on microbial extraterrestrial life on Europa were false. Is that the case, or is it just that since it was microbial people are still sceptical about sapient extraterrestrial life?

At least Dewey is just a low-level officer. We'd better not have any "500 luxury ration points says I can land all the colonists in less than 3 hours" or such shenanigans.

The outpost director has to run the outpost, even when its on the ship. This includes internal peace keeping (the soldiers are there for when the mesubrains show up, they're not cops), and keeping everyone busy and from having a year long party. His relation ship with the the ship captain is kind of like that of a client: the captain's job is to deliver the cargo of an outpost, and its the director's outpost. The director should be a good manager and politician. He probably has a Patron (Political party or National leader) and several good contacts. Don't go all out, but don't skimp either. You will very likely end up back on earth trying to effect policy. |

Charles Henry Adair, born 22 April 2114, was brought up in a strict environment, always expected to excel. His father frequently told him that he was to grow up to become a ship captain, or even fleet admiral like his eponymous ancestor. Always independent, though, he did everything he could to buck the rule of Sir James Adair, Bt. When he was kicked out of the Royal Spacer Academy, his father disowned him in a fit of rage, claiming he wasn't worthy of anything, much less the Adair name. Almost immediately, his stubborn streak shifted and he's been working for twenty-two years to prove his father wrong. He never went back to the military, though, choosing to remain in civilian life. In the years leading up to the war he worked as an administrative advisor/coordinator for various charities and humane organizations. During the war proper, he worked for the IAH directly, in charge of refugee and casualty arrangements. He frequently had to handle relocation of the populations of entire cities and bases and developed a deep mistrust of war, so he was a vocal advocate of the Alpha Centauri mission as a way for the IAH to become a peaceful, scientific alliance instead of just a military one. His experience made him the natural candidate to lead the outpost in its early years, so for the past six years he's been an advisor on the mission plans and construction of The Honor of the Earth. He's still slightly bothered by the choice of spelling, but there's nothing he can do now.

Dmitri Khaslik spent his entire early life on Europa. For many years he was considered just a little crazy, because he spent every moment he could out exploring. He suddenly became respected, though, when he managed to accurately chart the Arran Chaos. He enjoyed a few years of fairly profitable work until his services as a scout and guide were required by Wood's army. He fought the IAH, but didn't resent them when they won - he just wants Europa to thrive under whatever rule necessary. A constant wanderer, he eagerly accepted when he was invited to join the expedition to Alpha Centauri. Sheet:

also:
How independent are the individual nations of the IAH? Is this loose alliance (NATO), medium jurisdictional entity (UN), or near-complete control (US Federal government)? |

The IAH is loosing its power mostly due to the fact that the Wood empire is gone, and earth has no enemies to unite it. Part of your mission is the field the IAH as a research and space exploration entity, rather than a purely military organization made to manage the Wood war. In light of that, he can't go down as demanding that the mission not be military. He can be one of the faction who think that it should be made at all, as a scientific and peaceful statement. Work in managing relocation is fine, if specific, and not a terrible amount happened, but enough for him to make a name. Its good he's not an american, that wouldn't fly with the authorities if both leaders were US. Also, as a note to the above on FTL weapons in STL, they have a tech that breaks Warp drives when its used within the field. This is the tech that allowed humanity to win the wood war.
