Exotic power problem

so we just got a super munchkin game and had an argument about exotic's weird weakness ability. it says you are at -6. Does that mean -6 to that combat or that your total is -6? (i don't mean -6 off your total i mean -6 is your total. please help me clear this up.

It means "subtract six from your total", not "set your total to negative six".
