Default (IW) Echo Nomenclature

Normal timelines are named, however obliquely, after the divergence from Homeline that most stands out to the namer. What are echos usually named after?

I thought echoes were just numbered by the date, e.g. Echo-1972-AD, for an echo where it's 1972-AD. But now that I think of it, that may not actually be canonical. It makes sense, though.

Not that, since it would mean they'd all change name every year. You'd want to name them something like (time interval) before present. Infinity would probably use decimal years, but days or seconds would be just as good.

I don't have the book with me, but IIRC, they name the echo lines "Echo-###", where the number signs are replaced by how many years the echo is behind Homeline. (An echo that's 324 years behind would be "Echo-324", one that's exactly two millennia behind would be "Echo-2000", and so on.)

I'm not sure what they do if two echoes are the same number of years behind Homeline.

Yeah.. that's the inset on p85 of Infinite Worlds. If they came across an echo the same number of years behind as another one, maybe they would just add an extra numeric designator to show the order of discovery.

Echo-2000-A (B, C, ...) would be my suggestion for that.
