Just to make sure ... in a mediaval TL3 pseudo feudal world in a D&D like fantasy campaign, what types of elements would you expect?
There will be Heavy Cavalry, representing knights and such ... And there will be Light Infrantry, representing the "normal" people drawn to war, maybe some Horse Archers and also Pikemen. In case of defending the land, there will be a Levy of Inferior Light Infrantry with Basic or Poor equipment. That´s it? Would you model this differently?

I would add some light Calvary for scouts and patrols.
Also some combat engineers who can build and counter fortifications. In peace time they can assist with normal construction and disaster relief. Things like building flood walls or sandbagging rivers. In a higher power fantasy game some special ops Magic units. In a lower power game that still had a lot of magic I would mix in magic types for support roles for the various troop types. |

Thanx :) I cannot find "Combar Engineers" - could you give a page-number? I´m not sure about mage units ... but the enemies will have Supernatural elements, Undead and War Beats and such :D

I noticed, that Light Infantry (troup class "Rec") may be the wrong thing and used Medium Infrantry instead (no troup class)!

Half blind and dyslexic so I need bigger fonts to catch my errors more easily. Combat Engineers is what I meant. They are more support troops and build fortifications or assist with some sieges. |

Depends on the culture. Some areas are going to depend on Pike and Shot, a lot of traditional combat will be done by mounted or dismounted knights, peasants with cheap spears are also pretty reasonable. It also depends on where and how the fighting is going to occur, an assault on a castle will differ from a massive open field battle will differ from two warbands attacking each other in a forest.

Conscripts are almost certainly Medium Infantry—light or unarmored foot soldiers in relatively loose formation, no special abilities or attributes, etc. Beyond that, certainly Heavy and Light Cavalry, Heavy Infantry (in fact, if the culture is one that favors phalanx- or shield wall-style armies, conscripts might be low-quality Heavy Infantry, too) and Light Infantry, and don't forget the Bowmen. Depending on the army, you might also have Light Artillery (for scorpions and the like). Professionals/Veterans for some cultures (such as the Gauls) might be high-quality Medium Infantry instead of Heavy Infantry, due to fighting in loose formation. For a classical Pseudo-Western European world, that's probably about everything you need. At least, on the mundane side. For "civilized" armies in a D&D-style world, magic is probably common enough to have at least a few elements of Battle Mages (pg. 19). Monstrous humanoids such as orcs or hobgoblins might also employ larger cousins, like ogres or trolls. |

In a European setting, I wouldn't include mounted archers. If you've reached the Swiss Pikemen stage, then good heavy infantry. In a Japanese setting, things change. Very dependent on the when and where you want to emulate.

"mediaval TL3 pseudo feudal world in a D&D like fantasy campaign" I will remove the mounted archers then ... But Heavy Infantry does not seem to fit the bill. Or?!? Thanx!!
