Alan Dean Foster Nor Crystal Tears Template

Hi I'm needing a template and since templates are my weakness I tend to better with an idea to work from.

I'm trying to do a template for the incects very similar to the Thranx from the commonwealth novels for a fantasy game.

Basically they are almost human sized they have tool use and are fully sentient individually but they resemble ants in many ways.

Does anyone have or can they reference a book that might have a good template that I can work from?
