Blue Bird "All American" School Bus
Manufactured by Blue Bird, this boxy school bus can carry 84 passengers. It features a heavy steel chassis. It has a large 32"x81" entrance door that is air-powered. Inside, there is 78" of headroom for passengers. The engine is placed in the rear of the bus for easy access and maintenance. The bus uses 7.8 gallons of diesel per hour at routine usage. Subassemblies: Body +5, 6 Heavy Wheels +2. Powertrain: 224-kW wheeled drivetrain with 224-kW standard diesel engine, 8,000-kWs lead-acid battery. Fuel: 60 gallons diesel in standard tank (Fire 9). Statistics: Size: 41'x8'x10' Payload: 8.68 tons Lwt.: 18.1 tons Volume: 3,210 cf. Maint.: 70 hours Price: $82,212 HT: 12. Design loaded weight is 37,724 lbs.; this was reduced 4% to the historical. Variants: The bus can be configured with alternate passenger layouts seating 66, 72, 78, or 84 passengers. At the lower end, this makes the bus 7' shorter, and with some layouts less passengers simply increases the access space for the passengers. A 100-gallon fuel tank can be installed, as well as under-floor cargo space that can be locked (access is from the outside). The bus can also be fitted with a smaller 187-kW engine; the largest engine option was used in the design. A receive-only radio (AM/FM) and sound system (CD player) are additional options.
