Default [3e] HMS Interceptor

HMS Interceptor (TL5)
In the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean," The HMS Interceptor is reputed to be one of the fasted ships in the British navy. She is commandeered by Captain Jack Sparrow in his search for the Black Pearl.

The actual ship in the movie is the Lady Washington, a reproduction of an 18th century 90-ton merchant sloop. The original Lady Washington was built in 1787, and was used in the maritime fur trade between the American northwest and Asia. She was the first American vessel to reach Japan.

The reproduction was launched in 1989 in Aberdeen Washington for the Washington State centennial. Beyond appearing in movies, she is used as an education ship to demonstrate the history of merchant trading, the life of common sailors, and the responsibilities of ship's officers. In this capacity, she carries 12 crew and 48 passengers.

Design Notes:
Structure is Medium, with Standard materials. Waterproofed. Armor is DR 6 Standard Wood. The volume of the armor is figured into the design, as per the rules on p. VEii5. Mast height was determined from the historical sail area of 4,442 sf (design sail area is 4,422 sf). Volume was calculated using the Builder's Old Method. This matched the displacement volume of 21,000 cf well (210 tons x 100 cf per ton). Empty weight is 161,873 lbs.

The Lady Washington (the real ship used in the films) is constructed at TL7. This ship was designed at TL5, as it would be in the films.
