Defense against Sunbolt?

All but one Missile Spells won't hit a target protected by Missile Shield, with Sunbolt being the exception. How would you defend against Sunbolt?

Of course, several Blocking Spells like Deflect Energy, Phase or Blink will work against one attack. But is there a Regular Spell protecting you for a minute?

Don't think so. You'd have to invent an 'Energy Shield' equivalent to Missile Shield, that would stop attacks affected by Deflect Energy.

It was errata for the first printing.
P. 114. Under Sunbolt, change "and does impaling damage" to "and does burning damage".

Oh, sure... And the op was just asking for a Regular protective spell. I was fixated on the idea of an analogue to Missile Shield :/

Well... Resist Fire doesn't help against all kinds of burn damage. Obviously against fire, but explicitlely not against electricity - which also makes burn damage. Ice does burn damage, too, but surely Resist Fire shouldn't work against that.

But you are right, Resist Fire should work against Sunbolt. As a "level 3" Resist Fire would protect against a supernova, which surely will include not only "fire-inflicted" damage, but also "light-inflicted" damage, it seems to be logical.

I think you are looking for Deflect Energy. Its a blocking spell, Magic p. 73 (Fire). It specfically mentions in the sunbolt spell that deflect energy will defend against it.

Deflect Missle Magic 143 (Movement) does not specifically say it defends but does say "any missle spell" so I would think that would cover the ground also.

Deflect Missle is also included with Protection and Warning spells.

But either of those two would seem to cover what you are looking for.

Resist Fire's duration is certainly long enough.
