More Insights
Ok, so I have more insights to offer from my perspective. I think I made a mistake on my current campaign...even though the background and the story is pretty good/interesting I didn't come up with a very in-depth background for the players. So unlike AD&D 1st where you pick a class and kinda know your background/motivation, my players don't really know yet who they are really "role playing as". I need to give them a character to play, and that is how templates in Gurps can really help. I should have created several templates and let them choose and then they would have had an idea of what kind of character they should be playing as.
Now after we have been playing together for a while, they would most likely want to break out of the mold and come up with new templates. But as a new group (with previous rpg experience) some premade character types would have helped....I believe.
