i was playing Munchkin with friends yesterday and quite a few situations were problematic, i found many answers in this forum (thank you all) but there is one that still eludes me.
a friend had the kneepad of allure and was fighting a monster (i don't know his english name, it is a succubus like créature with a very long tongue in classic munchkin). the monster card says that he cannot uses items against it and must use only his level. so we discussed it and i ruled that he obviously couldn't play one shot item but could use the kneepad of allure since it was not giving him a combat bonus against the monster. i don't know if i did the right thing and i would like a official ruling; i read many thread about the Kneepad but couldn't find an answer. thank you. |

You did the right thing.
The Knee pads are not used on the Monster but on your fellow Munchkins, so since they are not used on the monster they still function in this combat normally. You are also correct that you cannot use One shots that provide a bonus against this monster (which I believe is Ghoulfiends) but you can use things like the Magic Lamp or Polymorph Potion that just get rid of it entirely.

I'm afraid I disagree with my immobile rodent friend. The monster in English is called the Ghoulfiends. The English text is "No items help against them -- fight with your Level only." Since the Kneepads of Allure would be used to fight against them, even indirectly, I would rule that they could not be used in this combat.

i see and so i guess no item whatsoever can be played (like magic lamp for exemple).
we played it as a wandering monster to prevent a not so high level but overstuffed player to win... |

No, Magic Lamp and Pollymorph Potion have been ruled to be OK, because they actually knock the monster out of the fight entirely. It's a pretty subtle difference, to be sure.

Weird. The monster illustratio you described is Tongue Demon, but the poweir is really Ghoulfiends. Maybe a difference because of translation.

And thus ends my streak. :(
I was thinking that since you had the option of asking for help and the Kneepads only change the way that you ask help regardless of what monster you're facing that they would be one of the exceptions. I was wrong, but always good to know.
