Cursed Thingy & Plastic Nun

Situation:
Player draws the curse, Cursed Thingy, and then chooses the steed to be affected by the curse. The steed, however, is protected from curses by the Plastic Nun. He says this is legal because he chose an item to be affected by Cursed Thingy, but it doesn't stay because Plastic Nun protects his steed from curses.
