I'm building a Toxic attack, and I wanted it to inflict Severe Pain as a Side Effect; but I notice now that Side Effect doesn't allow for Irritants. Does anybody in the hivemind know why?

That doesn't do what I want; Side Effect does, but the combination is disallowed fr a reason I can't fathom.

Thats another way to do it yeah, I'd rather spend the extra 2 CP though to do damage AND make them roll vs. pain.

Symptom (Severe Pain) +40%
But at 40% it's only come into effect if the attack deals at least 2/3 of the target's HP. You can double it to make it 1/2. And triple for 1/3. It's right next to Side Effect in the book. EDIT: Oh wait. Hm. Maybe irritants were too minor (they are just irritants) to be considered side effects. They aren't major like incapacitation, and they felt they should be resistible if they don't do enough damage. Personally I think the rule's fine the way it is. Your poison would have to do alot more damage to an elephant than it would a human to suffer severe, distracting pain. Why not do Agony instead? It's a stronger version of severe pain, and it can be a side effect. You know, now that I think about it, side effects can be a bit on the "cosmic" side. Shouldn't something like stunning fit under the rules of symptom better than side effect? Since Powers says it's a "requirement" for electric attacks? Back to the elephant again. Do I just have to break their DR for them to be stunned from an electric attack that only does 1 damage in the end?

Of course, most people would read it as disallowing irritants, and that was probably the intent, but still ... Luke |
