Default Some rather silly fantasy weapons made with the LTC2 rules...

As an exercise in getting to grips with the weapon customisation rules in Low-Tech Companion 2 and to see if I could spot any especially overpowered options, I made a few fantasy weapons. Most of them probably wouldn't be practical in the real world, but due to quirks of the game rules, they turn out to be strangely effective.

Stabby-smasher
A four-foot long wooden haft topped with a four-foot metal spike, the two halves seperated by a flanged metal mace head.

Mace with long handle, full-sized spearhead, very long spike.
Code:

Damage Reach Parry Cost Weight ST
One-handed sw+4 cr 2 0U	$155 9 14
 or thr+2 imp	3	0U	-	-	14

Two-handed	sw+5 cr 2 0U	-	-	13†
 or thr+3 imp	3	0U	-	-	13†
Scorpion's Claw
A short wooden haft mounting a large, hooked blade, a curved prong in front of that and a curved hand-guard projecting back along the haft below that.

Sickle with prongs and added hilt.
Code:

Damage Reach Parry Cost Weight ST
Slash sw cut 1 +1	$112.50	2.75 8
Stab sw imp 1	+1U	-	-	8
Hook thr-2 cut	1	+1U	-	-	8

Notes: +2 to Disarm, -1 to Holdout, can get stuck, can hook, -2 familiarity penalty.
Berzerk Bludgeon
A large hammer with multiple small spikes on one face and a single large one on the other.

Maul with spikes and pick.
Code:

Damage Reach Parry Cost Weight ST
Bludgeon	sw+6 cr 1,2* 0U	$182	12.5	13‡
 or sw+4 imp	1,2*	0U	-	-	13‡
Ultimate Fighting Stick
A wooden club with an extended 'S' shape, studded with metal spikes and a pronged cross-guard.

Light Club with spikes, hook, added hilt and prongs.
Code:

Damage Reach Parry Cost Weight ST
Stick sw+2 cr 1	+1	$132	3.75	10
 or thr+2 cr	1	+1	-	-	10
Notes: +2 to Disarm, -1 to Holdout, can hook, -2 familiarity penalty.

Hero's Heater
An expensive medium shield with all the options, for the dungeon delver where budget is not a concern.

All-Metal Heater Shield with Conical Boss, Disarming Spikes, Lance Cutout, Lantern Hook, and Rim Blade.
Shield bashes for +1 crushing damage, disarms at +1, gives +1 to Lance skill, and can slash for swing-2 cutting damage.

Code:
TL Shield DB Cost Weight DR/HP Cover DR Notes
3 Hero's Heater 2 $553 14.25 4/19 8
Bravo's Buckler
A modest buckler with enough blades to be used as offensive weaponry in its own right.

All-Metal Parrying Buckler with Large Hiltless Knife, Long Spike Boss, and Disarming Spikes, and Rim Blade.
Can attack with the knife at only -1, shield bashes for +1 impaling damage, disarms at +1, and can slash for swing-2 cutting damage.

Code:
TL Shield DB Cost Weight DR/HP Cover DR Notes
1 Bravo's Buckler 1 $395 10 4/16 8 +1 to Block

Laminated and all-metal are mutually exclusive. How can you have a laminated wood construction in a shield with no wood?

I thought it could be two-layer like duplex plate and take advantage of different metal properties.

Adding a hilt does seem a bit perverse, effectively offering a huge bonus to weapons for not already having a hilt in their stats. Makes a hilted off-hand parrying hatchet seem like a really useful thing to have.

I guess for most of them it realistically wouldn't matter because you're using an attack with U parry, and possibly also one that makes the weapon unready. But there are exceptions, like the fighting stick.

Other than that they don't seem too bad. Though using the Stabby-Smasher's long spear functionality with Axe/Mace skill seems off. As does using a 3-yard weapon one-handed.

Why do metal shields have the same DR as wooden shields?

Not quite sure on that one myself. These are light metal shields; -25% weight instead of double weight like they are in Basic.

Significantly thinner than the wooden shields, from the looks of things.

Not thin enough, I think.

Metal is more than slightly stronger than wood for its weight. A -25% weight reduction should not yield the same strength.
