Hi, I'm a noob here. I really enjoy the game, and thank you ahead of time for your assistance. One question has arisin while playing. I tried looking for an answer in the FAQ section and on the threads here, but I couldn't find one. We were playing and I drew a monster (I don't remember which one specifically) that stated that it would not attack a low-level player - Level 3 or below I believe. Anyway, as a Level 2 character, I did not want to fight this monster, so I avoided it.
I realize that I do not earn a level or treasure for this. However, is my turn over, or am I allowed to loot the room or look for trouble? We agreed that my turn was over, but I just want to know for sure. |

If my memory serves me correctly, what the cards of that type say is something along the lines of "the monster will not pursue characters of level 3 or below." What that means is that if you can't beat the monster, (and do not ask for help, or no one is willing to help you, or that you and your helper can't beat the monster,) you then choose to run away. If you are level 3 or lower (in this case,) the monster does not pursue you, so you don't have to roll to run away, and you don't suffer the bad stuff. You just run away successfully (even if, for some reason, your roll needed to run away is more than 6.)
And if there are other monsters in the combat, you must run away from them successfully or suffer their bad stuff, unless they have similar "will not pursue" instructions that apply to you as well. (I know that wasn't part of your question, but wanted to add it for completeness.) So what happens is that you have run away, you can't look for trouble (since you already encountered a monster,) and you can't loot the room. Nor do you get any treasure or earn a level. Note that some monsters have different instructions than this on the card. Anything on the card takes precedence over the general rules. If I have any of this not quite right, I expect that TPTB will chime in with corrections. Regards, aeronaut

Most of the powerful monsters have "Will Not Pursue" a character of a certain level. This means that if you can beat the monster (either by items or asking for help) you can still fight it and beat it for a level and a treasure. If however, other players sabotage you or you simply cannot beat it if you chose to run away to get away automatically without rolling the die.
If you faced a monster on your turn you do not get to loot the room, even though you escape automatically. Your turn only ends when you say its over. You still have the opportunity to sells stuff for a level, rearrange your equipment outside of combat or play cards out of your hand.

Or, if you die. Or, if a card says so. Also, once you give away or discard cards as part of Charity, your turn is over.
Otherwise, you and aeronaut are correct enough. From memory enhanced by a quick database search, there are no Monsters that do not fight based on Level. Those that will not "fight" or "attack" are controlled by Race, Class or gender. |

Thank you all. It was the Plutonium Dragon card, and it does state that it will not [I]persue[I] players at Level 2 or below. I'm sorry that in my original post I was going by memory and obviously got some of the details wrong. In reading over all the posts, I understand how gameplay should move forward in this case.

Yippee, the MM seal of approval. About time I got one correct (enough).
