I'm a week late with my piece on e23's November 24 release – not unlike an army arriving too late to relieve a siege. Which brings me to GURPS Crusades, by Eugene Moyers with Graeme Davis. This GURPS historical worldbook describes Europe and the Middle East as they stood at the end of the 11th century; catalogs the events of the Crusades (all of them, to 1272, with notes on the European "crusades" of the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries); calls out interesting groups such as the Knights Templar and the Assassins; and provides biographies for major players like Richard and Saladin. The history lesson is balanced with useful notes on what things were like – including climate, economics, social norms, tactics, and travel times – and how to use it all in a campaign. The crunch includes templates and suggested gear loadouts for knights, infantry, and other troops on both sides of the conflicts . . . and full character sheets for Richard and Saladin. It seems like a very fitting supplement to use alongside GURPS Low-Tech!To the Holy Land
