concerning Friendship Potion

Hi
I was playing a game of munchkin with a buddy today and we got in a bit of a dilemma

We were both lvl 9 and it was my friends turn, when he kicked open the door a small lvl 2 monster appeared, one which he could easily kill and thereby win the game.
I had no items to stop him but i did have the Friendship potion, so i was thinking, that id make the monster and him friends, so that he ccouldnt kill it and thereby preventing him from gaining a lvl, could that work?

Well, the card says that it can be used in any combat, all the Monsters get discarded, and that combat is ended (but in a way as if the munchkin(s) in the combat never faced a Monster and thus can Loot The Room), so what you are suggesting is exactly what the card is supposed to do.
