GURPS Supers offers rules for cheaper Allies. In essence, an Ally worth from negative points up to 5% of your point total has a base cost of 0.2 points. So for 1 point, you could make that Ally "constantly available" (x4 cost).

The reasoning behind the above is pretty much identical to that of the Pet perk, from GURPS Powers-Ups 2: Perks. For 1 point, you have an animal, which is probably built on 0 points or less, but who's always there and is as loyal as an animal can be.

And heck, if you really wanted, you could drop 1 point on Signature Gear and buy most small animals.

So either way, just call it a point and be done with it.

There is a minor distinction; a 1-point Ally or Signature Gear is an Advantage and doesn't count against any limits on Perks.

I doubt a Pet perk counts as a style perk any more than Fur, Deep Sleeper, or Alcohol Tolerance do.

It should still count as a general perk.

What perk limit is this being applied to?

Rev, pimp your products a little more!

DF 5: Allies has a hawk familiar that is built as a 62 point ally. The only cinematic thing about it, is that it has IQ 10, but personally, given the things players expect of "pets", I feel that giving them points back from lowered IQ (and it should be -10 points per level of lowered IQ, since you're probably leaving Will and specially Per as they are) is a point crook. Animals can be "smart", but not to the point of following the player's Rube Goldberg-ish plans.

Now, if you want a more realistic ally, lower it's IQ by 6, making it a 2 point character, and the player can take it as an ally, for 1 point (5% ally, 0.2 points, all the time x4) [1]. You can even give the hawk a handful more points, to keep it's point value at 5% of the master's point value (5 points, for a 100 point character, 7 points for a 150 point character)
