Default Wandering monster + newbie question

I am a newbie.
I play the Munchkin (2009 edition).

Questions:
  1. Supposing that I want to play the card "wandering monster" against a player, should the card be opened on the table ("have in play") or in my hands, or it doesn't matter?
  2. If I played the card once, can I use it again or I discard it with the monster I played?

Thanks

Wandering monster is not an item or a card that you place on the table before you play it.
It is discarded after use.

So, if I understood, I play it from my hand with a monster during a combat.
So, is it forbidden to have it open?

Thanks

The only common cards from the original game that stay in front of you are Items, Races and Classes. Almost everything else remains in your hand unless it says otherwise (e.g., Hireling can be played to the table and stays there). So, Wandering Monster, which says to play with a Monster card during any combat, is clearly not one of those cards.

Some expansions and other core sets add other cards which stay out in play, of course.
