If you just took along remounts they'd still have to go the distance, but how that'd extend the range I dunno.

I want to say that the Pony Express had stations every ten miles or so for the riders and/or horses to change out. I'd have to look that up again to be sure though.

Can't cite a specific example, but I think I've seen this done in novels, not that that proves anything.

I believe Jimmy the Hand... er, Squire James did it in one of the Riftwar novels. It carries a lot of weight to be able to, honestly, say "If you want anyone in your barony to survive to see next week, it's vitally important that I get to Krondor. Now."

Being the personal squire (and well known go-to-guy) of the heir-presumptive of the kingdom doesn't hurt, either.
