Some of you may have realised from my sig, but in case you haven't - I've updated my website to a wordpress format, and my Worldbuilding pages (containing lots of useful articles to make more realistic systems for your SF games, that can also be applied to Traveller) have now moved to a new location:
http://evildrganymede.net/rpgs/worldbuilding/ If you've not seen it before, the site contains: * Revised Stellar Generation Tables (v3.0) - realistic star generation tables (if you're still stuck using CT Book 6 for that, toss that away and use this instead, because this table will generate a much more statistically realistic distribution of stars!) * Realistic Astrography of the space around Sol - the 100 nearest star systems to Sol, arranged in stacked 3D subsectors (also includes some really useful excel co-ordinate conversion spreadsheets) * How to calculate Stellar Magnitudes - a simple way to figure out the apparent brightness of stars in your planet's night sky. Handy for seeing if that binary companion will turn night into day ;). * How to calculate Angular Diameters - a simple way to figure out how big stars and planets will look in your planet's sky. Useful for adding some realism and alien-ness to your worlds. * Stellar Characteristics and Evolution - a very useful and relatively non-technical overview of how stellar evolution works, including an HR-diagram. * JTAS article links - links to the two articles I wrote on JTAS many years ago about "Brown Dwarfs" and "Interstellar Wanderers". You'll need a JTAS subscription to view them, however - but AFAIK the science and data in the articles are still valid. Hopefully you'll find something useful in there if you're interested in making realistic systems for your SF games.
