Default Restraining Order

when the Restraining Order is used to return a card to someones hand, is the affect of the returned card cancelled?

Well, more often than not, the effect a card has on combat is a bonus to the Monster(s) or the munchkin(s), so yes, those effects would be canceled. I'm not possessed of huge amounts of time to go searching for any exceptions at the moment, but I'm sure there is probably at least one instance where a card would not be returned or that couldn't have all of its effects canceled. . .

Okay, let me be case specific...I am level 9 fighting for the win. Someone plays annihilation on the creature I am fighting. I immediately play restraining order on him. Does that cancel the annihilation?

Same scenario except instead of annihilation my opponent plays the transferable potion. Does the combat stayed transferred or do I get the monster back?

Ugh. . . I hate card necromancy, especially one at that level, but I'd have to say that it should be obvious what card would be returned if the effect was canceled. I'd like to hear Andrew's opinion on this, though, because I'm sorta torn on what makes sense.

As something to remember: "Affect" as a noun is a term used in psychiatry and psychology referring to an observed emotional response, and therefore never the word you want to use when referring to the result of something. :-)

95% of the time, "affect" is a verb and "effect" is a noun. If you go with that, you won't be wrong more than 1 time in 20. ("Effect" as a verb means "to cause or bring about," and is not rare but not common. "Affect" as a noun is a specialized term of jargon and almost NEVER found in common English, with the sole exception of the phrase "flat affect" to describe someone who appears emotionless.)

Restraining Order doesn't cancel card effects by itself, it just means that cards already played get taken off the table. In both of these cases you mention, playing Restraining Order means that the opponent gets a good card to use again, but the effects of both cards would stand.
