Proposed Link Variant
By the rules as written, Link is a +10% or +20% enhancement that either requires or allows you use advantages together. The +20% version is good; I think that one should be kept. I can see no special reason for the +10% to be 10% rather than 0% other than, perhaps, a sort of 'trait complexity tax' to discourage people from building weird powers (the logic might go: 'it's hard to judge how all these advantages might interact, so let's make it harder to combine them, just in case'). This problem is especially apparent when linking attacks, where Link and Follow-Up are functionally the same in most cases, except that Follow-Up is better (it bypasses DR in some cases instead of having to go through it twice) and cheaper (it usually ends up as a higher +%, but the end result is still that a Follow-Up attack is 10% cheaper than a Linked attack that does the same thing.) So... here is my proposal for Link. I think it's balanced enough, and intend to use it in my games, but I figured I'd post it here and see if the rest of you could point out any flaws. Link Variable Multiple advantages can be combined into one meta-advantage with this modifier. The value of the modifier is +0% by default, but can include any enhancements or limitations that would apply to the meta-advantage as a whole. Each link should have a descriptive name, and its component modifiers should be listed somewhere on the character sheet. For example, all the components of a 'nuclear fireball' attack (which perhaps includes a burning explosion attack, a persistant area-effect toxic radiation attack, and a double-knockback concussion attack) might have the modifier (Link, Nuclear Fireball, -50%). Elsewhere on the character sheet it would be noted, 'Link: Nuclear Fireball -50% (Costs Fatigue, 3 FP, -15%; Only usable on Tuesdays, -35%). |
