Cleric Discarding

For the cleric card, it says when you draw a face up, you can choose to draw from the "appropriate" discard pile.

Does this mean you have to pick from the discard pile you would have drawn from? Or can you pick from any? The word "appropriate" makes me not so sure.

You pick from the discard pile corresponding to the card you otherwise would have drawn.
