Default [Perks] No critical failure?

I was thinking about this recently, because IDHMBWM, if you have a skill over...let's say 25 or something, and you roll an 18, which is the only thing you can fail on at skill level 25, would it be possible to implement a perk that states you can't fail critically, just normally?

Possibly not for PC's, just NPC's IMO.

(Perk) No Nuisance Roll. If your effective skill is over 18, you are not required to roll; you succeed automatically. This Perk is specialized by skill.

The needed skill level is 16, not 18.

Note, however, that No nuisance roll doesn't apply to violent and risky things such as combat. I would be too powerful otherwise.
Moreover, it isn't specialized by skill, but by "task"... e.g., it doesn't apply to ALL uses of Piloting or Area Knowledge, but only to those devoted to a specific task such as "routine trips"...

==
Edit: as others said. It would be too powerful for combat.

I seem to recall this coming up before. Somebody (Kromm?) broke it down and it turned out to be a surprisingly expensive advantage.

Or I could be thinking of something else. Have you attempted a search?

Note that by the RAW, this perk is specifically not allowed to be used for combat rolls.

I think it's worth more than a mere Perk for this....Critical Misses can change the course of a battle if you drop your weapon or somesuch.

I would probably charge 5 points for one that was usable in combat.

Although note that if you don't roll, you can't get a critical *success* either, and with a combat skill at 18+ those are likely to be common enough to be pretty valuable. Paying a point for the ability to give them up to avoid any risk of critical failure isn't going to be very abusive.

I'd be pretty comfortable with a Perk that means if you roll a Critical Failure you roll again and it's only a Critical Failure if you roll a failure on the second roll; if you succeed, it's a regular failure. (much like the old method of checking for malfunctions with things that had very high reliability).
This Perk should be per-Skill, I think.
The difference between a failure and a Critical Failure is significant, but not so great that I'm that worried. For someone with an Effective Skill of 16 or more, it's only going to come up 0.5% of the time, so whatever.

High-skill fighters won't see so many crit fails on their own rolls, but their high-skill opponents' crit successes on defense rolls can be annoying.

I had a skill 28-something swordsman falling about like Buster Keaton because the GM kept rolling crits on enemy Dodges and Parries. A Perk to avoid that nonsense would be nice.
