Mayflower II (TL4)
Famous for transporting the Pilgrims to America in 1620, the Mayflower was a typical English merchant vessel of the day. The forecastle held the galley, while the captain's cabin and chart room were located in the superstructure aft. Below decks was the hold for cargo, and a lower deck where crew and other supplies (or 102 passengers) could be carried. The ship was defended by two 3-pdr "Minion" cannons facing aft. Typical crew was 24-30 sailors. Subassemblies: Body +7 with Mediocre lines, forward Superstructure +5, aft superstructure +6, one 59' Mast +1, one 68' Mast +1, one 30' Mast -1. Powertrain: 4,108 sf of Cloth Sails. Occupancy: Up to 4 in cabins, up to 32 in bunks. Minimum crew is 1 navigator, 1 driver + 3 sailors. Cargo: 71.4 tons Armor: 3/5W overall Weaponry: 2x 3-pdr cannons [Body:B]. Body: Navigation instruments, ship's bell. Forecastle: Galley. Aft Superstructure: Luxury cabin and cabin, voicetube. Below Decks: Capstan (5,000-lb. cargo winch), windlass (5,000-lb. anchor winch), 102 bunks (temporary), 8,000 man-days provisions. Statistics: Size: 106'x25'x81' Payload: 72 tons Lwt.: 238 tons Volume: 35,597 cf. Maint.: 61 hours Price: $105,800 HT: 9. HPs: 7347 Body, 1626 Sup. F, 4132 Sup A, 90 59' Mast; 119 68' Mast, 23 30' Mast. wSpeed: 12 wAccel: 0.05 wDecel: 1 wMR: 0.05 wSR: 5 Draft: 13'. Flotation Rating: 1,014 tons. Design Notes: Structure is Medium, with Standard materials. Waterproofed. Armor is DR 5 Standard Wood. The volume of the armor is figured into the design, as per the rules on p. VEii5. The ship is designed at TL4 (Mayflower), although the statistics are from the TL7 reproduction (Mayflower II). Volume was determined from a schematic of the reproduction; using the Builder's Old Measurement volume is 25,837 cf; using the Vehicles RAW volume is 9,163. The height of the shortest mast is a guess; the height of the other two masts is specified in the reproduction. The reproduction ship carries 133 tons of ballast, which is not figured into the design, since this would be replaced with cargo. Design draft was 5.3'; the actual draft is shown.
