Default Death by advantage

The rules for Permeation (p.B75) say that the user is affected by gravity. Does this mean that someone with Permeation (stone) who activates it while standing on bedrock will sink to the center of the Earth? With presumably dire consequences?

Not likely as written instead that line seems to simply let you know that you cant fly with power or do things like permeate with a waterfall at the base of the waterfall and "permeate up" against the current and drop of for instance.

It's a good interpretation, but I think mine is just as valid. And I don't want to charge a person 40 points for an advantage that kills him the first time he tries to use it... my players would not be pleased... :)

Maybe it's a sort of magical intangibility. Kind of like the Star Trek episode where two characters got turned invisible and immaterial because of a Romulan Mcguffin. In scenes shot from their perspective, they could permeate through bulkheads, doors and people… but they could still walk along the corridors.

Yep, I have always run it that way. Just like with intangibility not letting you fly it also doesn't mean you sink into the earth and cant get back.

Well, RAW says he just removed the ability of stone to support him against gravity, and he's still affected by gravity. That's bad news.

No, that's not what it means. The user is affected by gravity the same way someone in water is affected by gravity. He can swim down, or swim up.

Actually RAW say "you can move through a substance as if it wasn't there". Just assume that people have a bit of find control over it so they act as though they have Walk on Air while permeating.

I see there are still a few trolls in Sweden.

"You are affected by gravity, and you are limited to normal movement;
if you lack Flight or another movement advantage, you must walk at your Basic Move."

It would be rather problematic to walk at your Basic Move if you had plummeted to your death.

What is it with people not reading the books they presumably paid good money for?

"You can become intangible, passing through solid objects as though
they weren’t there. In this state, gravity does not affect you – you can move
in any direction at full Move (and make no noise when you move)."

It's not particularly fast flying, but it lets you fly.
