Default Another question about the Income Tax card.

I was playing a game with some friends the other day and one of them used the Income Tax card. He discarded some sort of rat card that had a sell value of 0 g. I thought that we should not have to discard anything because it said to discard something equal to that. They argued that you had to discard a card even if the original card was worth 0. We settled it by the standard Arguing Loudly with the owner having the final say, but I was hoping I could get a better answer here. :)

You are required to discard an Item in play by the terms of the card. An Item is any card with a Gold Piece value. Therefore, any Item would satisfy the terms of the Curse.

Thanks! I guess we did it right.

To be absolutely clear, however, it says to discard an Item or Items of equal or greater value. You must discard and Item with a value of at least 0 GP, not exactly 0 GP.

As an added question; Since the value of the discarded item was 0 originally, is it possible to just discard a card that doesn't have a gold piece value on it? (such as the impressive title, or musical theme from blender)

Those would not be Items. "No Value" cards are items that aren't worth a thing. Treasure cards with no text at all in the corner are not physical things, and are not considered Items.

AMOE you come up with a lot of strange and sometime irrelevant questions. Impressive title was given an errata to remove the "no value" text, and theme music didn't have it that I remember. So neither these cards can count as an item in the first place.

Dragging up another old thread with another question, hope I'm not getting to be annoying...

Suppose the Income Tax chosen by the original victim was higher than 0 gp. Could I discard an equal or higher Item *plus* a zero value item? As in, trying to get rid of that Huge Rock?

The card says you must discard an Item or Items totaling at least as much as the first Item discarded, so you can discard multiple Items, even if all of them have a value greater than the initial discard. Why someone would do this, I can't answer, but I can understand using this to get rid of an Item that is hard to get rid of and has a value of No Value.
