My Hsing-I class has started training with the Dao. I've noticed two things at odds with the way this weapon is written in Martial Arts. Both of these may apply to other weapons that have been given the 0U designation.
1: Practitioners use circular movements to to return the weapon to a position to parry. Used this way, it seems to be no problem to attack and parry in a single second, even with the heaviest "combat steel" dao. 2. A second hand is often applied to the sword to guide and control it, and (more rarely) to increase power. This also makes it relatively easy to return the sword to a defensive position after an attack. Solutions to follow:
