I bought Chez Cthulhu this week, and played it with some friends, and we quickly ran into an argument over the interpretation of some of the cards.
Fluffy and Hastur both generate a point of Madness any turn when they are the only Person in the room. I took this to mean that it occurred on the beginning of the turn of the Player who had the card. The two players that had these cards interpreted it to mean that it activated even on OTHER Player's turns, meaning that in a 4 player game, if a player put it out as their only Person, they would gain 3 Madness before their next turn started, and then an additional. I disagreed with this ruling, because it seemed to make it far too easy to hit Stark Raving Mad too quickly. Also, the Disturbing Plush Toy seems to do the exact same thing, with no conditional way to prevent it. The only other difference is that the Plush Toy says 'EACH turn', while the Pets say 'ANY turn'. So, three part question: A) What qualifies as 'ANY turn'? B) What qualifies as 'EACH turn'? C) Is there a mechanical reason for the difference in terminology, or was it just something that slipped by proofreading? |

Traditionally, you check for People effects at the beginning of your own turn, as well as when you first get them. So, any/each of your turns.
