Presupposing a peaceful break-up of the USA into an American Union, still backed up with the same dollar and other greater federal synergy.

The idea being that regionalism becomes prevalent and the different parts of the country decide to realign themselves into regional power blocs, creating at least 6 new nations made up of the individual states as well as Canada and parts of Mexico.

Northeastern Commonwealth of America
This bloc consists of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, DC and Northern Virginia, the New England states, Mass, NH, VT, CT, RI, ME, as well as the Canadian Atlantic provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Southeastern Ontario Toronto City-State, Southwestern Quebec Montreal City-State, and the Southern part of *Quebec below the St Lawrence River.
Capital: Philadelphia

Dixie Confederacy of America
Southern Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee except for East TN, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Eastern Texas, as well as the Caribbean Territories.
Capital: Atlanta.

Great Lakes Commonwealth of America
Ohio, West Virginia, East TN, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and the rest of Ontario.
Capital: Detroit

Central States of America
North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, the rest of Texas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, as well as Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon & Tamaulipas.
Capital: Denver

Californian Federation of America
California except for NoCal, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, all of Baja California and Sonora.
Capital: Mexicali

Pacific States of America
Oregon, Washington, NoCal, Idaho, British Columbia, Alaska, Hawaii, Yukon, Nunavut and the Northern Territories as well as the Pacific Territories.
Capital: Vancouver

(*Most of Quebec would be its own independent nation.)
