Default Epic Cleric Ressurection

Hakuna Matata,

An epic Cleric wants to use his ressurection. He takes the top card from the discard pile and puts it into play. As an epic Player he would have to draw a second one. Does he draw just one more from the normal door deck? Has he got to use the ressurection twice? Or would there be only one card in this case?
COULD he possibly ressurect the two top discards?

Cheers,
Yukimura

There are threads where andrew has ruled that a cleric can use resurrection on as many cards as he could. An epic cleric could resurrect both cards, but would need to announce his intent to do so right away. Or if he fights a monster worth 5 treasures with help he could resurrect any number of those by discarding all necessary cards right away. Also they're going to make it an official rule that the discard pile can't be looked through without cards that say so. So you better know where the cards fell.

That is true, but it needs to be made clear that resurrecting is not mandatory for the 2nd card, since that was asked. You need to resurrect all the cards you're going to resurrect at once.

What happens when an epic Cleric only wants to ressurect one card? Does he get to draw the second card face down? Or will there only be one door card, even if he is epic? Or does he has to ressurect two cards at once?

He resurrects one card and draws the other normally.

The cleric says "When it is time for you to draw a card face-up".

This to me implies that the epic cleric can use his resurrect on either the first door card, the second door card, or both, so long as he announces his intention to resurrect just prior to making the draw.

For example, when I play an epic cleric, I like to ensure that I get a monster, but don't like to waste a discard if it is not necessary. So if there is a monster as the top discard, I will often draw the first door card and see what it is before deciding to draw or resurrect the second one. If the first draw is a monster, I can draw the second door normally without wasting a discard. If the first draw is not a monster, it is worth using a discard to guarantee that I get a monster on the second draw.

I am assuming in this that there is a first door card and a second door card, but I suppose that it could be ruled that both door draws are resolved simultaneously. MM's comment above:

"You need to resurrect all the cards you're going to resurrect at once." could be implying this, so I would appreciate clarification.

That is, in fact, the ruling. Unlike some abilities that make it clear that you may draw one and then draw a second, the Epic "kicking open a door" phase means that you draw two cards at the same time and resolve them together, according to the Epic rules.

Edited to add: Drawing Treasure, btw, works exactly the same way. Although mechanically you almost always draw the cards one at a time, they are considered to be simultaneous draws for rule purposes.

The next time I offer to help someone, I will do it for just the "first Treasure draw." I will then remind them that since since all draws are simultaneous, the first draw includes all of the Treasure cards. ;)
