Default Discarding Dispute

There are several cards in the game that allow a player to pick up from "The Top of the Discard Pile"

I could not find any rules about this so I am hoping for some help.

Does the person discarding a card have to put their card on top of the discard pile or can they put the discard ANYWHERE they want to in the discard pile?

I am wondering because this seems like a good strategy if a person knows what they have is a good card the next person will want and the next person can pick up a card from the Top of the Deck so to stop that from happening, discarder just places the card somewhere in the middle of the deck.

There is no rule against it, or for it, so I am wondering if that is right or wrong officially.

On top.

It's not spelled out because that's one of the common rules of card games: discard to the top of the discard pile. SJ Games does publish a couple of card games that work differently in that respect - like Nanuk - but all of those say so explicitly in the rules.

However, if a player has to discard several cards at once -- when selling for a level, for instance, or after a particularly lively combat -- the player whose turn it is gets to order the cards on the pile. All of them must be put on top, but which specific card is THE top card is up to the current player.

Covering a card that someone else might want IS a good strategy, especially if there are clerics in play, and it is often called "burying." However, it can't be done as you are suggesting.

Typically it is done by discarding something ELSE on top of the card you want to cover, usually classes or races since these can be discarded at any time.
