Default Shopping in CHEZ Games

This is a conundrum that has comfused me every time I play any of the CHEZ games. When someone makes an attempt to go shopping and said attempt is cancelled by an activity-cancelling card (such as BRAIN FART, LAUNDRY DAY or any TV card), the rules say: "If you still have Free Time and Income left, you may attempt to Shop again." Does this mean that the Income used in the first Shopping attempt is considered "spent" and NOT available for use in the second, or since the attempt to shop was cancelled and all the items were retruned to hand, does this mean that NO Income was used and is thus available for a second Shopping attempt? None of the rules for ANY CHEZ game clarify this either way, either with the given examples or in the CANCELING section.
