sir pudding, there is a design system. It's called GURPS Vehicle Design System, and David Pulver is in the process of writing it (again:/).
Yes, you can make up stats for 4e vehicles without actually having a vehicle design system, but a VDS will certainly help with figuring out things like vehicle HT, Hnd/SR, DR, etc The stuff that's not completely obvious from looking at the real world statistics, in other words. |

I don't think (and perhaps I'm wrong) that Mark is talking about using any unpublished system here. Certainly no such system was used in any 4th edition book thus far.

So? What does that have to do with someone else wanting a design system?

1) Cheerfully use public domain information about real vehicles and convert that into GURPS terms. 2) Cheerfully rely on the various existing vehicle design systems to figure out things that aren't clear and then convert them over to 4e GURPS. 3) Cheerfully lie about everything else and pretend I know what I'm talking about! ("See here, young man. I think I know a bit about engineering. I teach engineers!" I will, of course, leave out the fact that what I'm teaching them about is Jane Austen...)* The closest I'm coming to "designing a design system" is things like "hmmm...one way to design an SM+2 mecha would be to take an SM+0 battlesuit and scale it up using the scale in Spaceships...it will mass and cost ten times as much and its armor will be twice as thick as the suit in Ultra-Tech...ah, yes, Wile E. Coyote, super genius..." *Later edit...in fairness, Jane Austen may have known a bit about vehicles. Two of her brothers, I think, were admirals in the British Navy. I'd like to see Municipal & Construction Vehicles...Fire Trucks, Ambulances, Cranes, Backhoes, Front End Loaders, Cherry Pickers, Bulldozers, and so on.
Also, Farm Vehicles and Equipment. |
