Inspired somewhat by the necromantically resurrected corpse of this thread: and by the news that a Solomon Kane movie is scheduled to open in 2010, I've decided to start designing a Swashbuckling Monster-hunters campaign set in either the 16th century (to correspond with the height of the European Witch Trials) or the 17th century, (to correspond with the Golden Age of Piracy.)
I have 3 questions for the hive mind: 1. Which of these periods would make for a better arena for over the top action and gothic horror and why do you believe so? 2. What martial arts should be available? 2.a. Has anyone developed any English Fencing styles, or subdivided the fencing styles in the book to offer more distinct options? I remember seeing some appropriate styles on the forums: a Scottish reavers style, a backsword style, etc... links or repostings of those would be helpful. 3. Using Path/Book magic, how would you design the various disciplines of Western Alchemy, European Pagan Traditions, Carribean Proto-Vodoo, any other period magical traditions?
