This question was raised when my cousin asserted that, being a Dark (whatever) he could throw a monster enhancer or potion on the side of a monster that was already winning and then gain an extra level for helping the monster win. I don't think you can "help" a monster to win if it's already winning. Tell me I'm right so I can slap him down.

Of course you can play cards and use abilities to aid Monsters to make them even worse, even if they're already beating the players. Nothing in the rules prevents this, and well, Monsters sometimes are pretty bad.

You make a point with the gaining a level though... If the monster is already winning... Than I would think that they don't gain a level. It would be like an Elf helping someone to gain a level.. Even if the player is already able to defeat it... I say no to the "Dark" whatever gainig a level... But that's me...

So, if I'm a 2 and the Plutonium Dragon is stomping me something good, and my cousin the Dark Gnome tosses some pretty balloons into mix he gets a level? Can he do that even after I've said, "Ok, I'm running away"?

Yeah, the best way to avoid arguments about, "I would've played that before you ran away, but you didn't give me a chance," is to (in combat) ask, "Anyone throwing anything else? <3-second pause> Okay, I've got nothing, so I'm running away."

Very true, but his real question is whether his friend who is a "Dark" whatever gets a level for playing that card to help the monster who doesn't need help to beat him.... refer to my last post... it makes more sense lol

MunchkinMan already said that he can play the card to help the monster if he wants. If he plays the card, then he gets the level. I didn't think that part of your post was in question anymore, so I answered the other part, hence my quote.

BTW: I yield to MunchkinMan's expertise on the level gaining, but I still think that is grossly game-unbalancing. Last edited by Green Monkey of Doom; 10-06-2009 at 08:19 AM. |

The intent of that rule, stripped of the "2.6 seconds" detail, is that combat isn't over, win or lose, until everyone agrees that it's over -- but, additionally, that one player can't hold everything up by dithering over whether he wants to play a card or not. (Unless that one player is the one fighting the monster. It's not a perfect world.)
