*tsk* If it is not those, it is the deodands :/

Now... On to happier thoughts! You could totally do a Dying Earth campaign with DF, without need for a lot of 'square peg/round hole' engineering.

At any rate, since he started to mention the project, I'll give the full title: Duncan Hines GURPS-flavored Cake Mix. [1]

The cake mix is a lie? The cake mix is a lie!

(Yes, it's on topic. What was Portal if not a solo dungeon romp?)

I've worked with more variability than this in the past. You've told me all I needed to know. Thanks!

I'd be very interested in DF Town. DF worlds operate by genre rules that extend beyond the dungeon.

I like my old school dungeons with the outside world faceless and anonymous thank you very much.
My tastes are different. Back in the old days, our PCs made their living by raiding dungeons, but they also had a blast raising hell back in town. Variety is the spice of life.

Besides, what's the point in collecting all that treasure, if you never get to show off?

I agree wholeheartedly. And I know that you and I aren't the only ones who feel that way. :)

But that's exactly what's so wonderful about DF's modular format. It means that fschiff can skip DF10 while you and I pick it up and use it. One gamer might think that nonhuman races were a huge mistake and skip DF3, while another buys it and makes races a big part of the setting. Even moreso than normal GURPS, it's all a la carte.

I'll also point out that, while early DF books did downplay the town as much as possible, they also made it clear that towns are important and potential places for adventure. Look at characters like the bard, whose social skills really come into play when in civilization. And he's been in the setting since DF1.

So, you don't need explicit towns, villages and taverns to play DF. But then again, you don't need elves and halflings, either. Or gods. Or summoned animals. But me, I play with all of that crazy stuff. :)

I consider a good towns book to be very nice to have.

There seems to be an incoming GURPS title, "City Stats", in preparation. Sean mentions it in his journal as "giving us all a canonical stats system for quickly describing cities." Sure it's not in the Dungeon Fantasy line, but if it's useful for Fantasy, it maybe useful here, too.

Any DF Bestiary had better have a Grue in it.

Wouldn't there be copyright issues?

Several other games have already gotten away with using grues. Jack Vance probably won't mind one more.
