DF1 has a "Manual" for $100, 6lbs. that grants a default with a skill that normally doesn't allow default use.
DF4 has a "Textbook" for $50, 6lbs., that does the same thing, and works for Sages, and lets you learn the skill. This seems a bit inconsistent - it seems to me that a textbook should cost the same as a manual, as the DF4 rules for it can be assumed to be an extension of the DF1 rules. If a textbook is outright better than a manual, it should cost more, not less. EDIT: Or I could've read the rules more carefully the first time, and realised that a "Manual" needs to be for a skill that give +1CF for a "Textbook" to do any good, which brings the prices into line. Duh.
