Hi all,
[sorry for my bad english] I am studying about Alchemy in GURPS Magic. I ready about "lapis philosopharum". The Philosophers' Stone is stone that act as an alchemical catalyst. It gives +6 to any Alchemy roll in which it is used. Contact with it confers small benefits on the unskilled. A person who wears it as an amulet or piece of jewelry is at +2 to HT to resist disease and poison, and wearing it continuously grants the benefits of Longevity. If left in contact with a metal object for 1d days, it turns the outer surface to gold, to a depth of 1/16” (~1.59mm). In the real world, there was a belief that you can prepare an "Elixir of Eternal Life" with that stone and use fragments of that stone with melt lead to make gold (See the book of Jacques Sadoul, "O tesouro dos alquimistas". Publishing House: "Hemus - Livraria Editora Ltda", translated from the french edition: "Le trésor des alchimistes", copyright 1970, Editions J'ai Lu. In english i believe the book is called "Alchemists and gold"). There is no rule for it in GURPS Magic. How much carats "lapis philosopharum" i can produce with the rules in GURPS Magic? Maybe an Egg (300 carats)? In game i could consider that if i use a 100 carats (or more) of "lapis philosopharum" as an alchemical catalyst for the Youth Elixir (Hebe) it will amplify the power of the elixir becoming it in an "Elixir of Eternal Life"? Maybe with a difficult success roll and three attemps (100 carat of the stone a time)? How much gold i could produce with a carat of "lapis philosopharum"? Maybe 300 (carat) : 13.23 (lb) : 6 (kg)? Any suggestion? |
