After the death of Gary Gygax, I thought it might be nice to get back into RPGs, so I looked up the latest D&D editions. Then my brain exploded from information overload. I looked around for recommendations for simpler, easier-to-understand gaming systems, and I found GURPS, which I haven’t touched since the old first edition. I am actually impressed with what I have read so far.
I want to set up a simple dungeon hack-and-slash, so I am trying to collect resources to help me do that. I am trying to replicate the Holy Trinity of D&D manuals, and Characters and Campaigns seem to match the Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide, respectively. My question is: Is there a GURPS equivalent of the Monster Manual? I don’t know if Bestiary or Fantasy Bestiary or Monsters will fit the bill, but those are also Third Edition, and I would prefer a Fourth Edition resource if possible. Would Fantasy have a thorough list of fantasy monster archetypes? Would I find some in Dungeon Fantasy? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it! |
