You have been sitting in your 10' x 10' peacefully for the last 300 years but now you hear a noise coming down the stairs. Its adventurers coming to kill you and steal your teasure. You must decide what to do. Do you wait and attack them alone? Or do you get the mind warper in room #2 and the trolls in rommom #3 to help you? The adventure begins!

I've played around with the idea several times (mostly for D&D). But I never ran it as I always figure out that it will play out more like a strategy game than a Roleplaying Game.
That doesn't have to be a problem, but that's the reason I have never run it. |

No less roleplay involved than PCs defending their castle. Now it's just underground and loaded with traps they're aware of. Hope that helps a little.

I would totally make the adversaries a gang of juvenile delinquents led by a blond ranger.

Sir! The braineaters in Level 3 are refusing to attack the intruders. They demand a day off, and 5% more brains. Also, your rival Dungeon Lord has arrived, and expects a greeting ceremony...

Run it! I just ran one, but I needed to do things differently to make it more fun. I gave the players 300/-150 and told them to go wild. One guy made a sentient, and sessile, door. It was a cool concept, but I would change it to a more "normal" 150/-75 "orc/goblin/ogre guards the treasure" game next time around. I'm getting ready, for my first time in years to run a table top game. I'm considering this concept. |

Loved Dungeon Keeper.
For a different take on Reverse Dungeon Fantasy, Overlord is oodles of fun. The evil death knight is rescuing the peasants from the fat halflings, saving the forest elves from King Oberon, rescuing the townsfolk from a Paladin, and bringing home pretty things for the damsel he rescued. And pillaging and burning and killing unicorns and whatever. It's more in the vein of traditional Dungeon Fantasy, but you're in the unusual position of playing an "evil" PC and doing your usual evil things, but somehow ending up the hero anyways.
