In a Munchkin Cthulhu game, a player is facing a single monster in combat. Another player throws down Bovine Intervention to kill the monster so that no Level can be gained. In Bovine Intervention's text, it states "Treasure is gained only if reamaining monster(s) are defeated." The argument was made that since there are no remaining monster(s) to defeat, then Treasure cannot be gained from the monster that Bovine Intervention destroyed. Is that a correct interpretation of the card?
Thanks!

During playtest, we once used Bovine Intervention to drop Cowthulhu on top of, yes, Cowthulhu. It was decided that the Munchkiniverse narrowly avoided being pulled through a Klein milk jug and turned inside out.

This has actually been asked before, concerning other cards that refer to Treasure only being gained after defeating other Monsters, and the answer remains the same: If there are no remaining Monsters, then you get the Treasure because the phrase implies that you get the Treasure if no monsters remain. If there are remaining Monsters, you have to defeat them to get any Treasure (as per the rules). Last edited by MunchkinMan; 10-07-2007 at 10:58 AM. |

Thanks!
Unfortunately, I couldn't find this point in the FAQs or Clarifications during the game. :(

It happened to a player who has been cursed with fighting Great Cthulhu every time he'd played the game. (in the tournament I ran a couple months ago, he got stuck fighting it twice in one game!) He'd just mentioned that fact and was in the midst of wondering if he'd also get stuck fighting Cowthulhu when he kicked open the door and... Poof there it was facing him. It was with great glee that he whipped Bovine Intervention out of his hand onto Cowthulhu's head. The shouts of amazement and laughter were heard thoughout the store. ... which reminds me I'm intending to give him an EiP pin for that accomplishment next time I run a demo... |

In my humble opinion Cowthulhu is omnipotent and omnipresent. Therefore he can be anywhere at any time, and do anything.
And if I can regularly trip over my own legs, Cowthulhu can certainly fall on his own head.
