Meanwhile--AUGH! Da'at sitting on a big plot point. Granted it's been glossed (the breach on the plane-tether) but as only one of three eyewitnesses, one of whom is moody and tired, the other a green-eyed ice queen who nobody likes to talk to...

We'll miss you Qed, truly, but the show will go on. Possibly light on plot, possibly going ahead with Plan A (as if there was a plan). Will definitely try not to drop anything in that says 'You know, he could have fixed this in a minute, he can get anyone to talk.' Then again, this means I don't get weaseled out of plot weeks early because my NPC got cornered. ;)

I'm sad to announce that I'm out for the chat session. A friend of my girlfriend (still correct term even if you're in your end-twenties?) will celebrate her birthday and we'll be out having fun, dancing etc. while grandma is caring for our daughter.

Yeah unfortunately 'girlfriend' still applies no matter how old you get. Along with the lack of a word for 'vous' ("y'all" is too regional to apply) I consider it one of the deficiencies of the English language.

Add--well, that's two down. Here's what I'm up to:

I expect I will still be here on schedule--I'm good for my word. There's an off-chance I'll be late, as I'm moving some furniture tomorrow morning. If for whatever reason I am late, I can post to here from my cell phone, and will do so.
I may bend plot/character motivations depending on who makes it and who doesn't, (contemplates interesting sidebars) or may just chat y'all up if that's what you seem up for.

Missed y'all--but given the scheduling glitches not particularly surprised. Used the time to canon-ize what's in play on sorcery, with one change. I was contemplating Shenmachel's "tainted" comment and figuring that he's largely right.

Updates--

Having serious headaches with my main computer--just did disk cleanup and it actually made the system slower. I was hoping it was just lack of maintenance and not a bug, but it's not looking good. On roommate's laptop atm but that goes away tomorrow. I may be spending Friday reformatting...grrrrr.....damned spyware...

Wondering otherwise why y'all are so quiet. This worries me, true. Once again painted myself into a where-are-all-the-NPC's corner. I'd really like to see you all interact with each other, but that's hard to prod right now. I do have one prod in mind but it would complicate things rather than just help, and things are awfully complicated as they are.

However what I have gotten done is some 'notebook' retconning. Most of what was formerly mere plot device now has rationale behind it, reasons that largely make sense and tie into the picture as a whole. Why Corat initially built the team by using notes on a plane, for instance--at the time it was me playing by ear, now there's a reason. Can say the same for why Velga is such an ice queen, why the Baron chose Gavin and where he's been up until that point, why the team is multiWord (it is not an accident or mere plot device), why your directions and information have been so minimal, who within Michael's org is in charge of all this madness, how the plane got to be a tether, why you met who you did when and where you did, as well as several other things that have been clear to me for awhile: who the major players Archangelwise are, what the mission was originally and how and why it has changed, why Corat told you about Yasukuni when he did, and how deep its significance goes, why he's so dodgy about things, why Ryuki is called 'Mozart' among magicfolk, where he got his abilities personality and vices, where C got his for that matter, where the Baron's been and what his motivation is, who the Habbalite is and what his motivation is, who the other people on the plane are.
Things that are still fuzzy even to me--where the Baron expects to go from here and what he hopes to accomplish, what the angels of San Francisco know and how much they may be involved, how much does Dominic really know, what does Khalid get out of all this, where's Gabriel, how exactly did the Demon Prince find the plane, and how it's all going to end up. Stay with me, please. While my life has gone absolutely bonkers right now I especially appreciate the escape that is this little fiction/puzzle/interaction.

Quick question, why are we decending from the Fire Tether in SF? Why don't our characters just take a cab, car or train to the city proper and walk in though the front door of the hotel?

Hazard of writing from work.

You're not descending there--you are taking the train or cabs as you will. However, most of the party came to SFO through that tether earlier, as opposed to taking the plane. The lone exception I can think of offhand is Da'at, who stayed on the Janus-tether plane.

The meeting room described is where angels go to speak freely. While the whole hotel is 'tether', that room is the 'business end'.

While Archangels (aka plot devices ;) ) have near-unlimited powers within their Words, they are as powerfully bound by the restrictions imposed by Choir and Word. Most Seraphim get quite uncomfortable telling a lie--a Seraph like Michael is fundamentally hurt by it, like a knife in the gut, like a soldier being forced to kill a civilian. He sometimes has to lie, war being like that, but it drives him to making war for its own sake, to work off the dissonance.

Janus in motion is gregarious and fun, a carnival of change. Janus sitting still is a brooding thunderhead, a bonebreaking* pressure system waiting to explode. (*those of us who have arthritis/old bone injuries know the feeling of 'predicting the weather' too well. If you don't get it, ask anyone who has broken a major bone.)

Khalid is genial and courteous when calm, trusting and believing. Shaken, he is as blind and violent as a sandstorm. Laurence, when matters are clear-cut, is power incarnate, icy and confident. When things become ambiguous, he becomes Hamlet (hence the picture on the MHC page for my inspiration), crippled by doubt and half-feigned madness. Novalis in peace is joy and pleasure--in a fight she is backbiting and catty, inclined to tangle an enemy to not directly hurt him. Dominic in a lie is a pipe organ crashing down into a church on a Sunday morning. Marc in a bad deal is an economic bubble burst.

Yves...we don't know about Yves.

Just some musings on the background guys. I'm trying to schedule a PM scene with Sylver/Rina-el tomorrow after work, and then I'll drop C back into the mix. Meanwhile a hint...first thing he's going to ask is 'what's the plan?'
