I'm looking at running a cinematic GURPS Infinite World campaign. First as a series of demo games at conventions and then as a full campaign.
Here is one thread which contains what I will be doing: http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=27429 One area I want to examine is simplifying GURPS in order to better fit cinematic gaming. I want the game style to be fast. It should exemplify the following seven guiding principles. * Game play should be fun, ffast, exciting, and fluid. * When in doubt, simplify * Less die rolling more fulfilling * Make rules easy to remember so book consultation is minimized * Reduce in game math to a minimum * Reduce game time reference to charts and tables. * Emphasize cinematic adventure; make the action larger-than-life. OK, here are a couple of things I will be looking at doing. 1. Simplifying ranged combat to use range bands rather than Speed/Range table, but for compatibility use the actual values from the Speed/Range table. Very Close 0 2 yd Close -2 5 yd Short -4 10 yd Medium -8 50 yd Long -10 100 yd Very Long -14 500 yd Extreme -16 1,000 yd 2. Change Acrobatic Dodge to a Technique based on Acrobatics. Acrobatic Dodge Hard Default: Acrobatics-6 Prereq: Acrobatics; cannot exceed prerequisite skill. You may replace any Dodge roll with Acrobatic Dodge. Any failure costs 1 FP, a critical failure costs 2 FP in addition to any other consequences. Reason: Current Acrobatic dodge requires two rolls which slows things down. I also want to encourage Acrobatic. The fatigue rolls are to help balance things out. People not skilled at Acrobatic Dodge will get fatigued far easier than those who are good at it. Note: I'd like to offer a cheaper Enhanced Dodge linked to Acrobatic Dodge so the bonus for Enhanced Dodge only applies when performing an Acrobatic Dodge. Anyone have suggestions, comments, hints, or tips? Keep in mind the guiding principles I've listed. - James Last edited by griffin; 06-02-2007 at 10:11 AM.
