What are the advantages to a hero who knows one spell, other than the casting of it?
They recognize the casting of that one spell by ITL 142, and they get the +4 bonus with the missile spell items, but what else? Would a hero who knew Flight have a bonus to control a flying carpet?

Maybe to piloting it, from experience flying, but the main roll for magic carpets is just about gaining mental control, which shares little/nothing with the Flight spell . . . unless the GM decides it does (e.g. maybe the mental exercises for casting Flight and controlling a carpet do happen to be similar).
Flight could be useful for carpet users who fall off their carpets, too . . . |

Knowing that spell is therefore +4 DX over not knowing it.

'Bonus' is a misleading term here. 'Advantage' would be more appropriate.
